UTT High Performance Track & Field athlete Darren Alfred, produced the eighth fastest time to move forward to the semi-finals at the World University Games in China. Competing in the 400 metres he cruised to win Heat 3 in fine style with a time of 47.14 seconds. He is expected to come close to his personal best of 46.73 seconds, if he is to make it to the finals. Overnight he had qualified for the final. Alfred is the only local track and field athlete at the Games and is UTT’s first finalist to date. He proved his metal at 7:30 a.m. (local time) on Thursday 24th August 2017 and Coach Lester Osouna predicts that he should do his personal best again in the final. Alfred is also a member of the 4x100 relay team.
