How can artists engage young people with a complex topic that is contributing to growing feelings of eco-anxiety and hopelessness, without dumbing down the stark fact that without radical change we will literally cook the planet? 

Metaphors are a way of igniting the imagination, so that we can draw attention to new possibilities.  The alternatives they kindle can spark ideas on how to move people and institutions towards change and even transformation to an alternate reality.   In the case of climate change, that alternative reality is one where existing human systems adapt and transform allowing life on Earth to be sustained.
