Dr. Roger J. Henry, Associate Professor of Music at  UTT Campus at NAPA, will present the world premier of his second symphony, titled Dance Tan Tan, at the Lord Kitchener Auditorium at the National Academy for the Performing Arts  (NAPA) on March 14th and 15^th, 2020 . The concert will run as another in the series, Spirit of a People, under the auspices of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts.

Dr. Henry will conduct the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago, with student performers from The University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Academy for Performing Arts Steel and Percussion Ensembles.

Dance Tan Tan is a symphonic work for orchestra, pan ensemble, and percussion. The music celebrates the spirit of Peter Minshall’s legendary Carnival Queen, Tan Tan, played by Alison Brown. The piece explores rhythm as a creative and sustaining force in music. The four movements of the work present the shifting, complex textures that are part of the rhythmic landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. The music hints at the unrestrained joyfulness of children at play, and invites imagery of dancing, running, leaping, skipping, teasing and even roughhousing.

The concert will take place at the Lord Kitchener Auditorium, NAPA on March 14th at 7:30 p.m. and March 15th at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets are free to the public and will be distributed at the NAPA Box Office on Wednesday 11^th March,  2020 at 11:00 a.m.
