Proficiency in Security Awareness

Description:

(Regulation VI/6, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended)

Aim

To give those onboard ship who do not have a designated security duty the essential education and training meeting the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the following STCW table, which supports Chapter XI-2 of the annex to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974, as amended and the International Ship and Port Facility security (ISPS) Code. NB – security awareness training must be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships which are required to comply with the ISPS Code. The training must meet the following requirements:

Competence: Contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness; Recognise security threats; Understand the need for, and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance

Entry requirements

There is no intake restriction for entry on to this course, which can be delivered on board ship as an MCA approved course or may be delivered in conjunction with other courses within basic training.

Any Wednesday subject to staff availability and number of candidates
