Global Maritime Distress and Safety System

Description:

(Regulation IV/2 and Section A-IV/2 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended)

Aim

The aim of this course is to equip the candidate with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to operate ship GMDSS communication systems. The Knowledge, Understanding and proficiency (KUP) requirements are set out in the following:

Table A-IV/2

Function: Radio communications at the operational level

Competence: Transmit and receive information using GMDSS subsystems and equipment and fulfilling the functional requirements of GMDSS Provide radio services in emergencies

Entry requirements

Candidates must be not less than 18 years of age, be fluent in the English language and have knowledge of the phonetic alphabet. Candidates ideally should be computer keyboard literate.
