(Covering the competence ‘Carry out fire-fighting operations’ set out in Tables A-V/1-1-1 and A-V/1-2-1 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended)
Aim
To give seafarers the essential education and training in fire fighting operations onboard tankers (oil, chemical, liquefied gas) meeting the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the following:
Tables A-V/1-1-1 and A-V/1-2-1 for oil and chemical tankers and liquefied gas tanker cargo operations
Function: Basic training for oil and chemical tanker cargo operations Basic training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations
Competence: Carry out fire fighting operations
NB – all other tanker training requirements under Regulation V/1-1 and V/1-2 of STCW must be covered in separate training provision.
Entry requirements
Those undertaking this training must have completed Fire Prevention and Fire fighting (Section A-VI/1-2 of STCW) or be in the process of completing it or similar training acceptable to the MCA.
Candidates must be aware that the practical aspects of the training are physically demanding in nature with some of the exercises involving live fires and the use of breathing apparatus. If there is any doubt as to an individual’s ability to participate in such exercises candidates should consider obtaining a UK ENG1 medical certificate, or equivalent, as an indicator of fitness.
