Public Outreach and Critical Thinking

The Academy has adopted the philosophy that one of the functions of the University is to reach out to the society, not only to present its work to them, but also to enter into dialogue from which innovations may well be made. To this end, the Academy is spearheading the following programs, all open to the public and designed to raise awareness and foster cultural confidence.

Public Scholarship talks

The Public Scholarship Talks is a series which allows for the public presentation of thought-provoking lectures from researchers, theorists,  philosophers and creators with a view to exploring the intersections between culture, education and innovation. These live, face to face talks will be captured and edited for social media/conventional media broadcast

Who Knew?

This is a tik-tok/social media series where Academic staff explain a concept in their discipline in a short (30-45 seconds) video for a general audience. Questions will come from people outside of the discipline, and answers should be tailored to people outside of the discipline. These videos will be shared on UTT's social media platforms.

Cultural Groundings

Following Walter Rodney's example, this program brings together cultural practitioners, academics, and the community to discuss matters of culture, identity, and local history. An invited panel of experts, practitioners, and policy makers have a roundtable/townhall discussion based on a specific theme/issue facing society.

Example topics include Tackling Crime through Culture, Trinbago's Orange Economy, Culture In Education

D Process

Similar to the Actor's Studio, this is series of conversations with our creatives in the Orange industry, discussing some of their iconic works and the creative process behind them. Open to students, faculty, and the general public, these conversations highlight the level of consciousness, skill, and artistry embedded in our culture thereby fostering cultural ownership and confidence in the audience. It will also show the skills necessary to participate in the Orange Industry.
