Overview
The Master of Science in Energy Engineering with Specialisation in Renewable Energy is offered in collaboration with the Energy Systems Engineering programme. It is designed for students with an Engineering or equivalent degree in Petroleum Geoscience or Natural Science. The aim of the programme is to produce graduates with a specialty in Energy Engineering, who would be immediately useful in the upstream petroleum sector, the downstream process industries, the emerging renewable energy industries and elsewhere in the energy value chain. This specialty would be engineering based for the major renewable energy options and in addition, include Sustainable Energy Policy formulation, supplemented by key skills related to Data Science.
The objective of the programme is to produce graduates who can:
- Function effectively in the changing energy times.
- Adapt to the constant changes required to meet the energy demands of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
- Analyze open-ended problems and design solutions for Energy Systems Engineering and related disciplines. This includes evaluation of associated uncertainties and risks and evaluation of societal impact.
- Acquire relevant skills in management, oral and written communication, team building, project management, economics, risk evaluation and decision-making required by the energy industry.

- Solar and Wind Technology
- Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technology
- Alternative Fuel Sources
- Sustainable Energy Analysis and Policy (in partnership with the Regional Centre of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC)
The programme consists of a combination of coursework, taught courses and a project thesis, with a focus on students using their initiative under direction and supervision to acquire the necessary knowledge to address upstream engineering problems. The instructional pedagogy uses Project Based Learning and Team Study
Entry Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Petroleum Geoscience or Natural Science with a minimum GPA 2.50 on a 4.0 scale.
- A combination of undergraduate education and equivalent experience will also be considered.
Mode of Delivery and Duration:
Full Time - One (1) year and Part Time - Two (2) years
