Description
This programme was designed for persons interested in pursuing a career-oriented qualification featuring industry referenced knowledge and skills to allow them to successfully engage in food-processing entrepreneurial activities or enter the food and beverage manufacturing job market. The programme aims to promote initiative, solutions and responsibility to respond to food sustainability and security needs, a matter of local and global interest. The curriculum features a range of industry-relevant courses in food safety, food processing, labelling and packaging requirements, product development and application of knowledge through an internship (work-based learning), scientific research methods and practice. Our keenly developed “work-ready” graduates will be employable at the managerial and supervisory levels, entrepreneurial or eligible for further study through developed capacity in research areas such as raw material substitution, production, processing and creation of value-added products.

Entry Requirements

2 A-levels OR CAPE I and II (Mathematics plus Physics or Chemistry), AND General Paper OR Communications Studies and Caribbean Studies plus O- Level Chemistry and O-Level Physics for all.OR

A Diploma or Associate Degree in related discipline from a recognized university.OR

A UTT Certificate in Food Technology with a cGPA of 3.3 and above and 1 year experience in the industry.OR

Partial fulfilment of a. (above) and/or any other qualifications deemed suitable such as CVQs, NEC and Technical Vocational certification or other evidence of potential for success.

Mature Student Entry:
An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to the programme based on years of experience and the ability to handle the level of programme learning, may be accepted as a Mature Student. He/she would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed by the UTT Programme Leader as possessing a combination of qualifications and educational or experiential maturity to enable him/her to successfully participate in the programme.
Note:
Graduates of the revised Certificate in Food Technology programme (revalidated 2018) with a cGPA of 3.3 can be considered for entry into the B.Sc. in Food Science and Technology programme (revalidated 2018) each semester.
Applicants can also apply for special admittance to complete a standalone course/s
Graduates of the revised Diploma in Food Technology programme (revalidated 2018) with a cGPA of 2.0 can matriculate into the B.Sc. in Food Science and Technology programme (revalidated 2018) each semester.
