When attending parties and other activities, you should:

  • Wear minimal jewelry.
  • Travel in groups to and from activities.
  • Not carry around or display large amounts of money.
  • Secure cell phones, wallets and purses.
  • Not accept drinks from strangers or leave drinks unattended.
  • Prearrange transport arrangements and designate an alcohol free driver.

Children should:

  • Wear identification cards bearing their name, the name of parent/guardian, address and telephone number.
  • Not be left unsupervised at home.
  • Not be left in the care of strangers.
  • Not use public conveniences unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Not accept food or drink from strangers.
  • Not be taken to fetes, calypso tents and other adult shows.

When driving to fetes and other activities, you should:

  • Ensure that your vehicle is properly secured.
  • Use paid car parks whenever possible.
  • Not overcrowd vehicles.
  • Not drink and drive.
  • Lock doors when vehicle is in motion.
  • Notify the police whenever you observe any strange activities around vehicles.
  • Obey traffic signs.
  • Not leave the vehicle unattended with keys in the ignition.
  • Not leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running.
  • Not leave valuable items exposed in your vehicle.
  • Be cautious of persons loitering near traffic lights.
  • Have your keys in hand when you approach your vehicle.

Remember it is an offence to:

  • Go through a RED LIGHT even at nights.
  • Travel in open trays of pick up vans and trucks.

When leaving your home, you should:

  • Secure your premises.
  • Never leave keys in mail boxes, plant pots or under door mats.
  • Notify the Police if you are going to be away for long periods.
  • Teach your children to lock the door when they enter.
  • Ensure that the property is illuminated at night.
  • Be observant when returning home, especially at night.

When parking your vehicle, you should:

  • Make a mental note of where you parked your vehicle.
  • Never park in an isolated area.
  • Park in a well-lit area as close as possible to the facility entrances.
  • Never leave valuable packages in visible your vehicle.
  • Store your packages in the trunk of your car.
  • Know your vehicle's license plate number.
  • When leaving your vehicle, make sure all doors are locked and windows closed.
  • Have your keys ready when returning to your vehicle.
  • Only leave your ignition key with a valet parking attendant.
  • When walking to or from your vehicle, avoid dark areas where criminals might hide.
  • If you have car trouble, remain in your car and use a cell phone to call for assistance, or return to the facility and notify security.

When using Public Transportation or Hired Vehicles, you should:

  • Carry some form of identification when attending activities.
  • Take public transportation with "H" being the first letter on the number plate.
  • Verify the cost of transportation before boarding hired vehicles.
  • Avoid dark and lonely areas, ie walking through the Queen's Park Savannah at night.
  • Do not accept lifts from strangers.
  • Do not carry around or display large amounts of cash.
  • Secure cell phones, wallets and purses especially in crowded areas.
  • Find a police or security officer if you are in of need assistance.
