13th Caribbean Junior Table Tennis Championships in Georgetown, Guyana
University of Trinidad and Tobago fielded three National Junior Table Tennis athletes to compete at the recently concluded 13th Caribbean Junior Table Tennis Championships held in Georgetown, Guyana from the 10th – 15th April 2008.
The players were Avernelle Abraham and Kristen Scipio for the Girls U18 Team and Kyle Borneo for the Boys U18 Team.
The UTT Players were successful in three events with Avernelle Abraham placing 2nd in the U18 Girls Team along with Kristen Scipio, another UTT player, who went on to cop the silver medal in the U18 Girls Doubles with teammate Ashley Quashie and placed 3rd in the Girls U18 Singles losing to the eventual winner of the competition.
The other UTT player, Kyle Borneo played a key role in the new Caribbean Boys U18 Team beating Guyana for the Gold Medal. He also went on to get the Silver Medal in the Boys U18 Doubles with teammate Rakhellon Pierre in a heart wrenching finals against teammate Kenwin Small and Zeke Huggins.
The Trinidad and Tobago Team had an impressive haul of 5 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze.
On the Basis of their excellent performance the three UTT players would be going to compete in the Latin American Junior Qualifiers with the hope of earning a place to compete in the World Junior Championships in New Zealand later this year.
